Why Route Nation Doesn't Offer Live Tracking

In a world where we can access almost anything in real time, not offering live tracking might seem like an unusual choice. So why don’t we offer live route updates or instant dashboards?

This isn't something we've forgotten to build or are planning to add later, it has been a deliberate decision from the very beginning.

We believe the biggest challenge isn't tracking activity, it's maintaining momentum.

Many wellbeing programmes start with great intentions. Everyone is enthusiastic during the first week, people download the app, connect their devices and enjoy watching the numbers climb. But as the novelty wears off, notifications get ignored, enthusiasm fades and participation slowly drops away.

We wanted Route Nation to be something different.

We've tried to shift the focus away from constantly checking progress and back towards the things that really matter; the conversations, the shared goals, the friendly competition and the sense of achievement that comes from working together.

By not constantly monitoring every mile or leaderboard movement, participants are eager to receive their updates and are motivated to compete, contribute and cheer each other on.

Anticipation is part of the fun.

Our Friday Snapshots and Monday Progress Reports become moments of conversation! Everyone gets to enjoy the excitement of the latest statistics together. And if people are still talking about the challenge, then it means it's having an impact.
